Lozza: Over 140 Years of Style and Innovation in Italian Eyewear
In the heart of the Dolomites, precisely in Calalzo di Cadore, in 1878 a company was born that was destined to leave an indelible mark on the world of eyewear: Lozza. Founded by Giovanni Lozza together with two traveling eyeglass vendors, the company began by assembling frames and lenses from abroad, later opening several stores in Veneto.
After the death of one of his partners, Giovanni Lozza decided to set up his own business, founding the Lozza workshop in 1912. The company grew rapidly between the two wars, producing for the eyewear manufacturers in the area, especially for Cargnel (which later became Safilo), and later celluloid frames, for which there was a great demand.
The Zilo Model: A Timeless Icon
In the 1930s, Lozza introduced the Zilo model, which combined metal and plastic in a simple yet refined design. This model became an icon of the brand, enjoying enormous success worldwide and selling over a million pieces. In the 1960s, the Zilo received the Oscar della Moda, cementing Lozza's reputation as a leader in innovation and design.
Stylistic Evolution: From the 50s to the 70s
In the 1950s, Lozza embraced the emerging youth culture, taking inspiration from icons such as Elvis Presley and James Dean. Frames became bolder, with rhinestone and mother-of-pearl inserts, reflecting the aesthetic of the time. In the 1960s and 1970s, the company continued to innovate, introducing geometric shapes and original designs that combined aesthetics and functionality.
In 1983, Lozza was acquired by the De Rigo group, which relaunched its image while keeping alive its artisan tradition and attention to detail. Under the guidance of De Rigo, Lozza has continued to evolve, offering collections that combine vintage charm with contemporary design.
Among Lozza's most famous models are the Macho, a classic from the 70s and 80s with pronounced temples and a slightly rounded shape, and the Cooper, with thick frames and a keyhole bridge, which embodies the energy of the 80s. Recently, Lozza collaborated with footballer Luís Figo, creating a capsule collection that fuses the brand's timeless elegance with a bold and contemporary design.
